HP_Pavilion_tx1000.jpgOver at laptopmag.com they have a review of the HP Pavilion tx1000 which they say “The tx1000’s basic ergonomics are quite good. The keyboard layout is spacious for the design, and you get full-sized Enter and Backspace keys, although the right Shift key is half-sized.”

“The underlying hardware here is quite good: a 1.8-GHz AMD Turion 64 X2 mobile processor works with a generous 2GB of memory and a roomy 160GB hard drive. We had no problem launching multiple programs such as the new Office 2007 suite, Internet Explorer 7, and DVD playback in an instant.”

Zoostorm 1-3301 Economy PC

Zoostorm 1-3301The silver and black front panel is made out of light plastic that rattles when you tap it, if you choose the Zoostorm 1-3301 Economy PC you’ll get a neat Micro ATX-cased PC, powered by - believe it or not - a dual core processor, along with a large hard drive and a half-way decent graphics card.

Video editing, digital photography and straightforward word processing or web surfing should be handled with ease.

At the heart of this system sits one of Intel’s original Dual Core processors; a Pentium D clocked at 2.8GHz sitting in an ECS P4M890T motherboard, which uses not the usual Intel chipset option but instead VIA’s P4M890 / VT8237R+ chipset combination. Supporting this is 1GB of PC2-667MHz DDR2 memory, but if you need more the board has four DIMM slots that can support up to 4GB of memory.

The graphics are powered by an Inno3D 7300GS Turbocache card which has 128MB of onboard memory, but can use up to 384MB of system memory to boost its memory up to 512MB. A video connector on the back of the machine allows you to play your video projects on a TV set or to record them onto video tape. Alternatively, use the DVD recorder to create your own DVD disks – although the Nero software supplied is rather basic.

PC Nextday backs the Zoostorm 1-3301 Economy PC with a years collect-and-return warranty.

HP Pavilion Slimline s7510n

HP_Pavilion_Slimline_s7510nThe HP Pavilion Slimline s7510n’s compact small desktop with a $500 price tag, it comes with Windows XP Media 9-in-1 media card reader, Dual-layer DVD writer with LightScribe label burning. The Celeron-M is a little slow for really strenuous multimedia tasks but ideal if your doing office work or just surfing the Internet.

As I said already the 1.6-GHz Intel Celeron-M 380 processor is ideal for basic tasks but if you plan to use this for digital photos or videos it may not be powerful for these tasks.

The PC also has 512MB of system memory, ok for basic tasks, though some of it is used by the onboard Intel GMA 900 graphics.

With a 200GB hard drive, the s7510n is also a lot quieter than the pricier Gateway DX210S mini tower. The smaller, entry-level Mac mini is also a bit more expensive (by $79) and comes with a faster dual-core processor, iLife software, Front Row with Apple Remote, and built-in 802.11g Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. But those features are balanced by a less-capable DVD/CD-RW combo drive and a much smaller (60GB) hard drive.

The HP Pavilion Slimline s7510n is certainly a system that goes back to basics. It will best suit those who don’t need high-end computing power to manipulate multimedia files such as photos and videos and want an inexpensive, stylish PC to enjoy the diversions on the Internet passively—in other words, the majority of users.
